Using recycled material for outdoor signage
Project: Signage for the natural area of Gallecs
Client: Consorci del Parc de Gallecs
Graphic design: Núria Vila
Location: Mollet del Vallès (Barcelona)
Year: 2018
Materials: FSC wood, recycled polyethylene
Keywords: Landscape integration, landscape design, product design, sign system.
WHY? The management consortium of the park asked us to design the signs using the most sustainable solution in terms of materials.
WHAT? After a wide research and testing of different materials for the signs we decided to use recycled polyethylene sheets instead of the typical sandwich aluminium-polyethylene ones that are usually in signage. Thanks to this decision we improved the carbon footprint and the recyclability of the signs. We chose FSC wood for the pilars.
HOW? Using a mono-material recycled sheet for the signs the environmental impact is much better. The joints between the plastic plates and the abutments are screwed in order to improve recyclability. We put a lot of effort into achieving good visibility of the signs and a good integration with the landscape.
